Islam Makhachev: Conor McGregor return is good for UFC

· Yahoo Sports

Islam Makhachev has weighed in on Conor McGregor's return to the UFC.

McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) will return from a five-year long layoff when he runs things back with Max Holloway (27-9 MMA, 23-9 UFC) in the UFC 329 headliner on July 11 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (Paramount+). Their bout takes place at welterweight, where Makhachev currently holds the UFC belt.

The sport's biggest star hasn't fought since breaking his leg in a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier in July 2021.

"It's good, big name for our sport," Makhachev told UFC on TNT Sports of McGregor. "But, he has a tough opponent. Max Holloway against Conor, I think Max can beat him."

Former UFC dual-champion McGregor beat Holloway in a featherweight bout in 2013. However, the far more active Holloway has opened up as a sizeable favorite over "The Notorious."
